A Mountie's service to the Suffern community doesn't end once they've graduated from Suffern High School. Fourth graders in Mrs. Fleischmann's class at Cherry Lane witnessed this firsthand when they had the opportunity to get real world engineering advice from Scott Fleischmann (SHS '20).
Learning about Native American history is a huge part of the social studies curriculum in fourth grade and to tie it all together, Cherry Lane students were treated to a visit by Journeys Into American Indian Territory.
When was the last time that you got to meet and have lunch with the author of a book you’re currently reading? For Cherry Lane students the answer is TODAY? Gordon Korman, author of several YA books, including Cherry Lanes’s #OSOB pick, “Restart,” came by today to speak to the entire school. And six lucky raffle winners got to have lunch with Mr. Korman too!
Is it possible to “restart” and become a different person? That’s the question Cherry Lane students are pondering as part of their One School, One Book (OSOB) selection, titled “Restart” by Gordon Korman. The book follows Chase, a boy who isn’t always nice to his classmates. When Chase falls off of a roof and suffers amnesia, he can’t remember who he is, or why some of his classmates are afraid of him. As Chase returns to school, he realizes that he has the opportunity for a fresh start. But will he take it?
Not only is today the Friday before a break, but it’s also Valentine’s Day AND the Rockland Read In, an event dedicated to celebrating the joy of reading.
The first Wednesday in February is designated as the Global School Play Day, a day dedicated to the power of unstructured playtime in education. As you can see from the photos, our elementary schools clearly understood the assignment!
